Senior Staff Positions

Red Pine Camp was established in 1925 as a summer camp for families. Since that time, it has grown into one of Canada’s most well-known and well-respected family camps. Red Pine is situated in the largest grove of Red Pine trees in North America on the shores of beautiful Golden Lake.

During the camping period, (July 1st to Labour Day) about 2,900 campers of all ages attend Red Pine each summer. As an established summer family camp, Red Pine requires 13 senior leaders age 19 or over who possess a strong personality, character, stability and warmth to help oversee operations and act as supervisors, mentors and role models to a summer staff of 54 teenagers, ages 16 and 17.

Experienced leaders are needed in the following departments:

Administration:

Office Assistant/Tuck Shop Assistant: This individual works under the supervision of the camp’s business manager to deal with customers, handle reservations, settle accounts and assist in the management of the Tuck Shop. The office assistant must be comfortable handling money, possess good people skills and have strong business skills. Depending on skill levels, this person may be asked to help periodically in other departments eg. LIT program.

Food Services:

Dining Hall Host/Hostess: Responsibilities include daily supervision and scheduling for a staff of 17 waiters and waitresses ensuring facilities are clean and well managed; liaising with the catering firm; meeting all health and safety regulations; monitoring special diets and food quality; organizing special meals - including an outdoor barbecue and weekly cookout. The dining hall Host/Hostess has an Assistant Host/Hostess who helps in the daily operations of the dining hall and dishwashing area. The Assistant Host/Hostess also has responsabiliy in the Handicrafts area working with the volunteers and controlling inventory.

Head Dishwashing: Responsibilities include supervising 7 dishwashers, ensuring all dishes, cutlery, pots and pans are clean, health and safety standards are rigorously applied and that proper cleaning procedures are in place. A good knowledge of cleaning solutions and chemicals is an asset.

Program:

Junior Program Director: This leader plans, organizes and supervises a large junior program for as many as 150 children each day. The program, which runs for an hour and a half in the morning, is geared to all age groups, from the youngest toddlers to pre-teens. Weekly themes, special events and skits are also part of the job. As well, junior program staff, under the director’s leadership, organize a weekly Folklore night and three weekly afternoon craft activities for children. The junior program director, who also has responsibility for scheduling staff, has an Assistant Director, who also assists in the camp Tuck Shop. Both the director and assistant director must possess strong communication, supervisory and organizational skills. As well, they should have a strong background in children’s programming.

Director, Leader-In-Training Program: (LIT) This dynamic director implements a leadership program for campers ages 13 to 15. Self-confidence, independence, initiative, self-esteem, the ability to function in a group, lifetime skills, and lifelong friends... are all very important factors in the program -- and these are the very things a good camp should help foster. The LIT program includes work placements for participants and a weekly overnight canoe-camping trip. Low-ropes challenge course certification is an asset for the job. The director is also required to supervise LIT participants during the morning junior program activities.

Family Program Director: The director organizes tournaments, sporting events, weekly themes, day and evening activities for the whole family. Activities include a cookout, camper show, sing-songs, dance, coffeehouse etc. The director must be creative, enthusiastic, comfortable using a microphone and have experience with programming. Strong communication and organizational skills - as well as an outgoing personality - are assets for this job, which is one of the most high-profile positions in camp.

Property:

Property Director: Works alongside the camp’s two, full-time, permanent property managers to ensure that the camp is clean, safe, well maintained, all repairs are in order, and health and safety regulations are met. Assets for this job include extensive working knowledge of tools and building procedures, excellent supervisory and communication skills as well as a strong background in customer service.

Tuck Shop:

Tuck Shop Manager: The manager has a background in retail sales, along with supervisory experience. The manager possesses extensive knowledge in cash register operation, customer service, maintaining an inventory, pricing, scheduling and organization. The Tuck Shop is an important hub of camp life. The manager ensures that all staff are properly trained, oversees the cleanliness of the shop and ensures that service is prompt and efficient and that campers feel well served.

Waterfront:

Waterfront Director: This individual is responsible for the safe operation of all waterfront activities and equipment. The job includes training and supervising a team of lifeguards, overseeing the swimming program, boating program and everyday operations, including a weekly regatta and cookout. In addition, the director, who has a National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certificate, current CPR and first aid certification, must ensure compliance with all safety regulations. The director has two assistants.The Assistant Waterfront Director-Swimming is in charge of the swimming program and is primarily responsible for organizing, supervising and evaluating the swimming lessons. The Assistant Waterfront Director-Boats is in charge of boating and is primarily responsible for the sailing program, which includes teaching and maintaining the boats. Both of the assistant directors are also required to have their NLS, CPR and first aid. The swimming assistant must also possess a Red Cross Instructor's certificate. The boating assistant is required to have sailing qualifications and a good knowledge of boat maintenance and repair.

Smoking Policy:
Red Pine Camp has also joined other summer camps in Ontario to ban smoking among all staff.
